TWO members of Bettws Banger Racing were invited to attend a Royal Garden Party at Buckingham Palace in recognition of their charity work.

Alun Horn and Kevin Jones were joined by thousands of people from all walks of life.

More than £100,000 has been raised for local charities and causes over the last seven years through the popular event racing event near Newtown.

Chairman Alun said he didn’t expect the invitation and initially thought it was a joke saying: “I thought it was wind-up!”

Kevin added: “I thought it was a court summons. I didn’t take much notice of it.”

Both were in the queue next to Prince Harry at the garden party attended by The Queen, Prince William, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie.

“It was a real honour for the whole team. It’s nice to be recognised for all the hard work,” Alun said.

“It was an absolutely amazing experience. A bit wet, but a lovely day out.”

Bettws Banger racing returns on August 25 and entries for this year’s race have opened.

Alun added: “Thanks to all competitors, volunteers, marshals, spectators and landowners because without them we couldn’t do it.”
