A MAN and woman who have admitted a string of animal cruelty charges and to running an illegal dog breeding operation at Tanygroes have been sent to crown court for sentence.

Steffan Lee Harris and Barbara Ray Howell, both aged 25, of Cwmduad, Carmarthen, pleaded guilty to animal welfare offences when they appeared before magistrates at Aberystwyth Justice Centre.

Harris admitted 12 offences, including causing suffering to a lurcher, terrier, collie, chows, pugs and a schnauzer.

He admitted running a dog breeding establishment at Waundwni, Tanygroes, without a licence between April 7 and November 11 2018 and to placing misleading adverts about dogs for sale.

Harris also pleaded guilty to causing unnecessary suffering to four chickens at Tanygroes.

He admitted further offences of failing to comply with animal by-product requirements on land at Rhydlewis in that he failed to identify, collect and transport animal by products without undue delay and failed to look after 19 sheep to protect them from pain, disease and suffering.

Howell admitted six charges of animal cruelty against various dogs, running a dog breeding establishment at Waundwni, Tanygroes, without a licence and placing misleading adverts about dogs for sale.

Both Harris and Howell were granted unconditional bail and committed to Swansea crown court for sentence and for the consideration of a confiscation order brought by Ceredigion County Council officials.
