Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team was called to the aid of a woman in distress on Scafell Pike.
25 team members were called to the aid of a 70-year-old woman yesterday afternoon, near the summit of the highest mountain in England, after running into difficulty.
The woman was treated on the side of the mountain after breaking her arm.
Two rescues teams were involved, Duddon and Furness Mountain Rescue Team and Wasdale Mountain Rescue team.
A spokesman from DFMRT said: "A Coastguard helicopter had been called, but was unable to get to the casualty because of low cloud so offered to airlift some team members half way up, saving some time.
"The casualty was treated by Wasdale MRT and then both teams worked together to carry the stretcher about two km over the very difficult ground to the helicopter that was waiting just below the clouds at Hollow Stones."
The teams were in attendance for five hours with 25 rescuers.
