A woman has been rushed to hospital with serious injuries after a crash on the A69.
Emergency services are still at the scene.
The road remains closed between Carlisle and Newcastle after a car and a lorry collided.
Northumbria Police closed the road just after 2pm.
It happened close to Bardon Mill, which is near Hexham.
A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: "At 2.12pm today July 9, police received a report of a collision between a car and a lorry on the A69 near Bardon Mill.
"A female occupant of the car has been taken to hospital with serious injuries.
"Emergency services are in attendance and the road remains closed in both directions."
North East Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "We were called at 2.09pm to a road traffic collision. We deployed three Hazardous Area Response Teams and a double crewed ambulance.
"We have also requested the support of the air ambulance.
"Two people have been taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary one by Air Ambulance and one by land."
