A NEWCASTLE Emlyn flower farm is hosting an open day as part of the Flower Farmers’ Big Weekend.

Sara Redman will throw open the gates to her gardens at The Flower Meadow, Llain Manal, Penrhiwpal, on Saturday, August 17 from 10am-4pm as part of the scheme.

There will be the chance to wander around the cutting patch at The Flower Meadow, along with guided tours throughout the day and Sara will be on hand to answer any questions.

“It’s all about the beauty of discovering British scented cut flowers and to get people to realise that there are amazing flowers to buy if you look locally,” said Sara, a familiar face to many from her regular stall at the Newcastle Emlyn Community Market.

“All the flowers are nurtured on our smallholding where we take the time to care for our eco-friendly and seasonal flowers. None are flown in.”

Sara has been at Llain Manal since 2015 and started the business in the summer of 2016 as she pursued her passion for growing flowers.

“I had always grown flowers for myself on a couple of allotments,” she said.

“It used to be my complete down time and how I relaxed and I started giving them to friends and doing weddings and things like that.

“Now it is my full-time job and it is so rewarding and I am still learning so much all the time about what’s best to grow here.”

Admission to the gardens will be £5 to include tea, coffee and cake. All profits from the day will go to Skanda Vale hospice shop in Newcastle Emlyn.

Llain Manal lies on the B4571 on the left as you head out of Penrhiwpal heading towards Ffostrasol. For more information call 01239 851576 or go to https://www.facebook.com/events/270565353866385/
