FRESH fears have been raised about pollution in the River Teifi estuary.
Regular dog walker Brent Slater, from Cardigan, says he has noticed what he considers toilet waste pollution around the Patch area.
“I have noticed it when out with the dog and it always seems to be around this time of year,” said Mr Slater.
“I just wonder if it is coming from an overflowing cess pit or if someone has just flushed it through.”
Mr Slater contacted Natural Resources Wales to report his concerns and officials have visited the area but say it is very difficult to trace the source.
“I could probably fill a black bag with waste in five or six paces,” added Mr Slater, who says he often picks up rubbish while out walking
“It just looks so bad and creates a really bad impression of the area, especially with all the other incidents that have been reported recently.”
There have been two big pollution spills into the Teifi at Cilgerran earlier this year – including one where 120,000 gallons of slurry poured into the river – while more recently NRW officials have been investigating the cause of a spill at Newcastle Emlyn.
