THE search for a new headteacher at Ysgol Calon Cymru will resume in the autumn, the governing body has announced.

The successful candidate is expected to take on the leadership role at Builth Wells and Llandrindod Wells campuses in September 2020.

Powys’ newest secondary school has been without a permanent headteacher since the end of April, seven months after it first opened.

Former headteacher Ionwen Spowage left the school for a new role at Ysgol Bro Dinefwr, in Llandeilo, after teaching in Builth Wells for 24 years.

Chair of Governors Sharon Hammond said the process to appoint a headteacher will begin again in the autumn.

In a statement, she said: “Governors have taken the decision to begin the head appointment process again in the autumn term with a planned September 2020 start date. We have asked the interim senior leadership team to remain in their current roles until that date, with the addition of Mr M Morris who was recently appointed as assistant head and has agreed to step up as the second acting deputy. Governors are pleased that they have agreed to do so.”

Stephen Patten and Lee Powell will continue as joint acting headteachers, with Matthew Morris joining Gwennan Nicholas as acting deputy headteacher.
