A NEW memorial plaque on the cenotaph in Cardigan has been unveiled to honour those from the town lost in recent conflicts.
The new bronze plaque commemorates Lee Davies and Dave Greenhalgh, who died in Afghanistan, and Michael Dunphy, who died in the Falklands War.
A special commemoration and dedication service was held at the war memorial on Saturday afternoon to honour the three soldiers.
The plaque was officially unveiled by the Lord-Lieutenant of Dyfed Sara Edwards
Cllr Paul Hinge is Ceredigion County Council’s Armed Forces Champion.
He said: “It was an honour and privilege to open the Service of Commemoration and Dedication as not only a son of Cardigan, but as a veteran myself and Ceredigion County Council’s Armed Forces Champion.
"The three fallen sons of Cardigan, Michael Dunphy, Lee Davies and Dave Greenhaulgh paid the ultimate sacrifice and their names are now immortalised on Cardigan War Memorial honouring their sacrifice.
"As a council we worked with the families and the regiments to ensure this service provided a fitting tribute to their family member and the turn-out on Saturday was testament to how important this commemoration is to all concerned.”
