NEW Quay will keep its snooker club for another year with more potential good news in the pipeline for the town’s Memorial Hall, which is fighting for survival.

Members of Ceredigion County Council’s charity trust committee approved a proposal to extend the snooker club lease at the Memorial Hall at its meeting on October 15.

The current lease had expired at the end of last month and at the time of writing the report for committee no grant funding has been awarded to the current charity managing the hall, meaning no lease.

However, at the meeting good news about potential future funding was hinted at, although committee chairman Cllr Elizabeth Evans said she “won’t elaborate on that until you get confirmation,” adding congratulations to the new team’s hard work and commitment.

The possibility of transferring the hall from the trust to those managing it may be considered in future but a full energy performance certificate review of the building would be required.

It was reported that that concerns raised by the Memorial Hall committee at the last charity trust meeting, not held due to a lack of councillors, were being dealt with.

The letter, from the treasurer of the New Quay Memorial Hall charity, outlined accounting issues and a difficulty in gaining information from the county council.

It adds that the charity was in the final stages of a £250,000 Welsh Government grant bid and had potential donations of £120,000 if the hall was transferred.
