THE future of the Cardigan Memorial Hospital site will be up for discussion at a public meeting to be held this weekend.

The meeting has been called by town mayor Cllr Shan Williams and will be held at the Radley Rooms in the town’s Guildhall tomorrow (Saturday, October 19) at 1pm. It will be chaired by Assembly Member Elin Jones.

The future of the site at Pontycleifion – along with that of the health centre at Feidrfair - has attracted much attention with the imminent closure of the hospital and the transfer of services to the new £24m Integrated Care Centre at Bathhouse Road.

Site owners Hywel Dda health authority revealed earlier this year that it is working alongside planning authority Ceredigion County Council to draw up proposals to sell off both parcels of land for affordable housing.

Cllr Williams said both sites are absolutely pivotal to the future development and wellbeing of the town.

She said: “There have been many suggestions regarding the future of the hospital, my hope is that the hospital is given back to the town and run for the benefit of this community.

“Is there a way we can keep the site for the local community and care for the vulnerable people in our society? These are all ideas to be explored.”
