NEW Quay's all-weather lifeboat was this morning (Wednesday, January 15) called out to a stricken yacht off the Ceredigion coast – the second time in five days it has been involved in a rescue

The 32ft yacht issued a mayday call at around 9am from a position off Aberystwyth.

Aberystwyth RNLI's Atlantic 85 boat was first on scene and took the vessel under tow but the weather conditions made it too dangerous for them to tow into Aberystwyth, with winds gusting to force eight and rough seas.

New Quay all-weather lifeboat put a crew member on board and took over the tow, before safely mooring the yacht back in New Quay harbour.

A spokesperson for Ceredigion Lifeboat Campaign, which is campaign to keep the all-weather lifeboat at New Quay, said: “This shows how well New Quay's all-weather lifeboat complements the inshore lifeboats at flank stations.”

Last Friday, New Quay’s all-weather boat towed into Fishguard a stranded trawler that was adrift in a force nine gale with six crew on board in what turned into a 16-hour operation.
