AN ACCIDENT on the M62 is causing long delays from junction 27 back to junction 24.

Two lanes were closed are there are long delays and queueing traffic due to the accident at the junction with the M621 at Gildersome.

All lanes have now been re-opened but there is nine miles of congestion reported on the M62 eastbound adding at least 50 minutes to normal journey times.

Highways England are asking drivers to plan ahead if travelling in the area.

Lanes two and three of three were closed with lane two closed at 3.20.

Despite social media claiming lane one and two being closed, matrix signs confirmed it was lanes two and three.

One lane was closed, adding to the traffic queues, due to broken down vehicle on M62 eastbound between junction 26 for Chain Bar and junction 27.

The breakdown occured within the delays in lane two of three. 

There is queuing traffic on the M606 southbound at the Chain Bar junction.

There are delays back to the Staygate junction and travel time is 14 minutes.

And there is also queueing traffic westbound due to people slowing to look at accident on the opposite side from junction 29 at Lofthouse to junction 26.
