THERE will be no Cardigan Carnival this year.

The event had been scheduled to take place on Sunday August 9 but with the coronavirus crisis still ongoing, organisers were left with little choice but to pull the plug.

“We were playing with ideas to have some sort of online event but have now decided to call it off totally,” said Richard Jones from the organising committee.

The carnival has only recently been revived after a lapse of many years and has proved very popular, with a week-long series of events ranging from It’s a Knockout, bingo and a quiz, to the barrel race, treasure hunt and the carnival parade through the town centre.

“Perhaps we may be able to do something around Halloween or some other event but we will have to see,” added Richard.

The cancellation joins a long list of casualties, including Barley Saturday, Cardigan Show, the Tivyside Show, the River and Food festival and Newcastle Emlyn Food Festival to name but a few.
