A Cumbrian vets surgery has reassured its Scottish clients that it's okay to travel over the border if their animals or pets need treatment.

Capontree Vets in Longtown clarified the situation after travel restrictions were introduced along the border last week because of Covid-19.

In a Facebook statement on November 19, the surgery said: “For all our Scottish clients, the practice remains open as normal, with all current precautions in place.

“Travel for attending the care of a pet, or veterinary services is considered essential travel.

“Where appropriate, we can post out medication, please call the surgery if you have any queries or concerns and we can discuss these with you.”

According to guidance published on Friday one of the acceptable reasons for cross-border journeys includes: “Travel for essential animal welfare reasons, such as exercising or feeding a horse or going to a vet.”
