Work has begun on the regeneration of Haverfordwest Castle.
Pembrokeshire County Council set a 10-week project to create new green space around the historic site.
The aim of the latest work is to improve the burgage plots above Castle Lake car park.
The project will include the creation of wildflower meadows, native plants, bat boxes, the planting of small trees and new paths and seating to be included, as well as skeps – medieval bee hives.
Councillor the Castle ward, Tom Tudor, said he was delighted to see the work above the car park begin.
“It is excellent to see work commencing to enhance and bring life back into the garden terraces overlooking Castle Lake Car Park,” he said.
Head of culture, leisure and tourism at Pembrokeshire County Council, Mike Cavanagh said the area had become a ‘forgotten landscape’.
“We are looking forward to creating a beautiful and well-used green space in the historic heart of the town, as part of our wider project to conserve and enhance Haverfordwest Castle and its environs.”
