CLIMATE protestors in Cardigan are planning a sea and river climate event, to coincide with next month’s G7 summit in Cornwall.

The leaders of the seven wealthiest nations in the world meet on June 10 and climate change is on the agenda.

Cardigan Extinction Rebellion plan to take part in four days of UK-wide action aimed at sending ‘a really meaningful message’ to world leaders.

“This is the last decade when we can make meaningful change to protect the future,” said a spokesperson. “The G7 should be leading the way.”

Each area has one nominated official day of action; for Wales, this is Wednesday, June 9, the day before the conference starts.

Cardigan XR and groups around the country are starting to plan. “Everything is very fluid at the moment but we think that there are loads of possibilities,” added the spokesperson.

“There will be an installation on the Teifi at Cardigan, and at Poppit a family-friendly picnic on the beach, flags, a giant sand design, King Canute holding back the water, sand art/ messages on multiple beaches.

“Small World Theatre have already kindly volunteered some street theatre with a flooding theme. We would love to make a big thing of it!

“There is lots to be decided. Cardigan and Carmarthen XR are happy to organise and co-ordinate the events from Cardigan, but we are only a small team and we need your help and imagination to take on other ideas and beaches.

“We meet on Mondays on-line at 5.15pm and are having the first socially-distanced meeting in ages in Cardigan on 17 May at 5pm in the Cardigan Quay Street Car Park by the floating Shampan restaurant.
