NFU Cymru will be hosting another series of virtual events throughout Royal Welsh Show week from Monday to Thursday, July 19-22.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, the Royal Welsh Show is again being held on a virtual platform this year. NFU Cymru has organised two webinars to coincide with the virtual show:

On Tuesday, July 20, at 12.30pm, speakers will be exploring the future prospects for red meat.

NFU Cymru director, John Mercer will be in conversation with Hybu Cig Cymru (Meat Promotion Wales) chairwoman Catherine Smith and McDonald’s franchisee Ron Mounsey.

The webinar will be a chance to learn about Catherine and Ron’s perspectives around the opportunities to sell and promote Welsh red meat to new and existing markets following the UK’s departure from the EU and the trade opportunities that presents.

On Wednesday, July 21 at 12.30pm, NFU Cymru president John Davies will be in conversation with Senedd llywydd Elin Jones MS. With the sixth Senedd term now underway in Cardiff Bay, this webinar will be an opportunity to explore some of the challenges and opportunities facing the Welsh Parliament between now and 2026.

NFU Cymru, along with the National Federation of Women's Institutes-Wales, CLA, Farmers’ Union of Wales and Wales YFC, has also organised a joint event on rural connectivity and the digital divide between rural and urban areas. The live webinar will take place on Monday, July 19, at 12.30pm.

NFU Cymru president, John Davies said: “The Royal Welsh Show is the highlight of the agricultural calendar and for many farmers the show provides a chance to get away from the farm and catch up with friends from across the country. While it is understandable that the show cannot take place in its usual form again this year, it’s great to be able to join the show’s activities virtually.

“I’d encourage members to register for our webinars and to take part in the discussions. We have a great line-up of speakers, so I’m very much looking forward to what they have to say and the questions we get in.”

For those not able to join the webinars live, the recordings will be available to view on the NFU Cymru website.
