A DIFFERENT style of learning. That's how Haverfordwest's newest sixth form is being described.

The long wait is over and Castle School now officially has a sixth form, which only began at the start of this month, September 6.

The school, based on the town's Snowdrop Lane, is providing a hybrid style of learning combining both online and face-to-face for its first ever 15 sixth form students.

The new surroundings and the new style of learning is not the only thing these trailblazing learners are experiencing, they also had a very peculiar start to their academic life in their new class.

"Whilst schools returned to the classroom, Castle School did something different," explained proud head of sixth form, Dawn Brown. "Instead our sixth formers spent two nights camping at the beautiful Little Retreat in Lawrenny.

"Teambuilding and familiarisation sessions meant the new students were relaxed and happy when they got down to business on the first Monday morning."

The new sixth form is part of a steady expansion in the organisation which added a preparatory school a few years ago, with this new six form 'rounding things off'.

"Castle School promises to provide a different style of education in Pembrokeshire," continued Ms Brown.

"Our sixth form has listened to a cohort of teenagers who spent the recent Covid restrictions rethinking how and when they could study. Responding directly to this generation who now are more familiar with learning through a laptop than hours of ‘chalk and talk’, Castle School is providing a hybrid of the best ways."
