BAGS of rubbish including cutlery, a golf tee, loads of cut up pieces of twine, a sock, some garden fencing, two giant logs, general rubbish and a pair of children's shoes have been collected during a beach clean by 1st Letterston Guides.

The guides visited Newgale last Friday evening and spent a good few hours removing rubbish from the beach.

The beach clean was part of the Great Big Green Week and will go towards the guides' Take Action theme award.

The event was nearly cancelled due to the drizzle but as the guides got to Newgale the weather cleared up and they were rewarded with a beautiful sunset.

"We had a great night," said Leterston Guides unit volunteer, Jo Fisher. "After rubbish picking there were snacks and drinks followed by a lot of the girls ending up in the sea."

1st Letterston Guides meets every Friday from 6.30pm until 8.30pm.
