VALERO Pembroke Refinery has announced the retirement of vice president and general manager Ed Tomp.

Mr Tomp was with the refinery since 2007 and in his current role since the acquisition of the refinery by Valero Energy Corporation in 2011.

Commenting on his retirement, Mr. Tomp said: “I shall always remember the warmth and generosity of the people of the Pembroke refinery.”

During Mr Tomp's time the refinery workforce has been responsible for achieving several milestones.

They were awarded all three Corporate Chairman’s awards for excellence in safety, environmental performance, and reliability, and certified as a “VPP Star Site”, the highest safety designation in the Valero Protection Programme.

In 2014 the company marked 50 years of operation of the refinery and was commemorated firstly when Mr and Mrs Tomp presented to Her Majesty the Queen and HRH Prince Philip a framed photograph of the Queen Mother opening the refinery in 1964.

Later in the same year, Their Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge visited the refinery to celebrate the 50 years of operation.

Mr.Tomp’s successor will be named in due course.
