A boutique bed and breakfast in Pembrokeshire has recently been awarded a Great Taste Award for its prize-winning homemade fudge.

Fields Lodge Boutique Bed and Breakfast in Herbrandston, Milford Haven, was given the award by the Guild of Fine Food due to its family recipe for homemade fudge.

Jayne, the owner of Fields Lodge, makes her fudge on her 70-year-old aga at the bed and breakfast in very small batches.

This means that every batch of fudge is stirred by hand, then hand cut and bagged ready.

The old family recipe was handed down from Jayne’s grandmother, Violet, who used to make the fudge to treat her seven children and husband Percy.

Jayne started making fudge to give to her guests as a treat, and had so many comments about how great the fudge was and requests to buy some as gifts to take home that she was eventually persuaded to make it to sell.

Since this, word of Jayne’s fudge has spread, and she was invited to demonstrate making ‘British’ fudge to Americans at a conference in the USA for accommodation providers.

Jayne said: "I'm so delighted that the love that we put into making our fudge was recognised by the judging panel, and it’s fantastic to have something to bring the spot light to Pembrokeshire to highlight the great producers in the county."

Fields Lodge is no stranger to winning awards, being named amongst others including 'Best bed and breakfast in Wales,' 'Wales’ Hidden Gem' as well as being long-time holders of 'Pembrokeshire’s Finest Breakfast.'
