Young musicians are being sought for a new Narberth-based band.

The call has gone out from Narberth Jazz, which holds a monthly live jazz event at the town's Plas Hotel.

The group has been inspired to start up the band after receiving a large amount of equipment and instruments from a local donor.

All young instrumentalists with a minimum standard of Grade 3 are eligible to apply, as well as aspiring singers. The successful applicants will have weekly, term-time, sessions in group playing from qualified teachers at minimal cost.

The music played will be open to discussion, but will guided by the ambitions of the band members. It is hoped that creative improvisation in jazz styles will form part of the on going programme.

This project is available to all musicians under 25 who live within 10 miles of Narberth.

Chairman, Ben Morris, said: β€œAt the moment we are hoping to gauge the amount of interest, as music in schools has been reduced in recent years, and there are so few opportunities learn the skills needed to play in groups.”
