A SCHOOL in Pembrokeshire is unable to accommodate students due to staff absence.

Haverfordwest High VC has release a statement on their Facebook page saying Years 8 and 9 will miss schools days because of shortages of staff.

Year 8 will be closed on Thursday, October 14, and Year 9 will be closed on Friday, October 15.

In a letter written by Jane Harries, the headteacher of the school said the pressure on staff at present is enormous.

"It is with regret that I write to inform you that I have taken the difficult decision to close to Year 8 pupils for the day on Thursday and Year 9 pupils for the day on Friday.

"It is not possible for us to be able to operate safely for all our pupils on these dates due to us already being aware of a large number of teaching and support staff absent from school due to sickness.

"As a school we have done everything we can to cover lessons with existing staff and booking supply staff, but we still do not have the capacity to cover large numbers of classes on these dates.

"The pressure on our teaching and support staff at present is enormous and whilst every effort will be made to provide some work this will not be possible for all classes.

"I can confirm that I have consulted with the Director of Education and the Chair of Governors before making this decision and they understand that in these circumstances it is necessary for the safety of all."
