Police and Crime Commissioner for the Dyfed-Powys area, Dafydd Llywelyn, has launched a public consultation on policing priorities and police funding.

Residents and businesses across Dyfed-Powys will have until November 30 to have their say on the draft Police and Crime Plan, as well as the police precept level for next financial year.

The Commissioner’s policing priorities for 2021-2025 are set out in his Police and Crime Plan.

In the draft, he commits to "ensuring victims are at the heart of every decision, with a specific focus on understanding victims’ views, taking trauma-informed approaches and looking at community-based solutions."

In launching the consultation, Mr Llywelyn said: “Feedback from the public, together with research and assessments of local needs, resources and priorities have enabled me to set out policing priorities for our local communities.

“Set out within my Plan is my overarching vision for 2021-2025, for the communities of Dyfed-Powys to be safe places to live and work, where people, particularly victims, are supported and trust in their policing and criminal justice services.

“At this stage, it is important that I check back with the public and partners to see whether you agree that my draft policing priorities will ensure my overarching aim for the communities of Dyfed-Powys will be achieved.”

Mr Llywelyn is also in the process of establishing the budget for local policing for the 2022/2023 financial year as he awaits the Government’s Police Grant settlement.

Whilst the Chief Constable assesses the priorities, pressures and investment requirements to keep communities safe, the Commissioner will consult with local residents and business owners as part of the budget setting process.

The consultation will ask residents and business owners to consider their contribution towards local policing.

The consultation is now open, and will close on Tuesday 30 November, with links to the survey available of the PCC’s website, www.dyfedpowys-pcc.org.uk.

Mr Llywelyn added: “I am urging the communities of the Dyfed-Powys area to voice your opinions on these important issues to ensure that Dyfed-Powys Police can continue to safeguard its communities with the highest standard of service available.”
