A FAMILY'S spectacular display of Christmas lights is up and running - and is the biggest yet.

Keith and Sharon Dacre have transformed their Dalton home into a winter wonderland for the past 10 years.

And this year's display, the grandest they have ever assembled, has had its big switch-on.

Delighted onlookers have already paid a visit to the extravagant display in Tantabank, which took nine weekends to put up.

This year's display features a grotto area, a snow platform and a sled that children can be pictured in.

As well as that there are hordes of Christmas trees and animals, including a singing moose.

The lights will be used to raise money for Furness Homeless Support Group.

Mr Dacre, a 53-year-old health and safety manager, said he had battled adverse weather conditions before finally finishing the display.

"There's loads to look out for," he said.

"It's taken that much longer because of the weather. It's been a mad rush but at least they're up.

"Christmas trees that were fixed to the floor snapped in half. I nearly gave up.

"We finished it on Friday night but then the storm came and I looked out the window and it was total carnage.

"We clubbed together with my brothers and my family and we got it all done and finished it at 4.45pm before the switch-on at 5pm.

"It was a race against time but we loved it."

Mr Dacre said he and his wife had worked together on the lights display, with Mrs Dacre acting as the designer and him as the builder.

Family members and other onlookers came to see the display after the switch-on on Sunday.

"Quite a lot of people came. The kids loved it," he said.

"I'm really pleased with it."

Mr Dacre said he had been motivated to build the display to put a smile on the face of his two-year-old grandson.

Visitors to the display are advised to obey social distancing.

Last year's display raised around £750 for Furness Homeless Support Group.
