McDonald’s has announced that it is today (Wednesday, January 5) rolling out its first plant-based burger to every store throughout the UK, with the McPlant now available in west Wales.

The McPlant was trialled at more than 250 nationwide restaurants last year, and after the trial’s success, the burger is now on the menu at McDonald’s stores in Pembrokeshire, Carmarthenshire and Ceredigion.

The burger took more than three years to develop, featuring a patty co-developed with Beyond Meat.

The McPlant’s ingredients features a vegan sesame bun, mustard, ketchup, vegan sandwich sauce, fresh onion, pickles, lettuce, tomato and vegan cheese.

Furthermore, it is cooked separately from other McDonald’s burgers and sandwiches using dedicated utensils.

Michelle Graham-Clare, chief marketing officer for McDonald’s UK and Ireland said: “We’re so pleased that our McPlant is now officially ‘everywhere’ and available for more of our customers to taste and enjoy.

“We saw a remarkable response to the trial period back in October, and now McPlant is on the high-street, in retail parks and service stations all over the UK and Ireland so all of our customers will be able to try it.

“We’re proud to once again be offering our customers more great-tasting options from McDonald’s. Its our same iconic taste – but plant-based.”
