AN HISTORIC pub in Wrexham is on the lookout for a new licensee after shutting its doors.

The Horse and Jockey, located on Hope Street in the city centre has been closed since February this year.

Star Pubs and Bars, who own the building say that it will remain closed until June as they look to attract a new landlord.

The grade II listed building dates back to the 17th century, and as well as being a pub, has also been cottages and a cobbler’s shop.

It was earlier known as The Colliers, and was re-named in honour of Fred Archer, widely regarded as one of the greatest jockeys of all time, who rode at nearby Bangor-on-Dee.
