Huge crowds flocked to Lydiard Park to take part in a muddy May bank holiday challenge.

Hundreds of people tackled a Pretty Muddy 5km obstacle course with mud pits and inflatable slides on Saturday.

After spending the morning warming up with aerobics and energetic activities on the green, youngsters tried a kid-sized version of the obstacle course which included a mud pit, space hoppers, and an inflatable slide.

Then, from 1pm onwards, groups of 200 over-12s set off every 15 minutes to traverse the main Pretty Muddy course.

The money raised will help save lives by funding scientists’ research into new ways to prevent, diagnose, and treat cancer.

Around the country, an estimated 1,500 people walked, jogged, or ran the 3km, 5km,10km and Pretty Muddy Race for Life events to raise funds for lifesaving research.

Since 1994, more than 10 million people have taken part in similar events to support the cancer research charity, raising more than £970 million so far, which has helped to develop radiotherapy that is used to treat more than 130,000 people with cancer in the UK each year.
