The Deputy Prime Minister was in Pembrokeshire yesterday (August 21) for the launch of a multi-million-pound eco-friendly project.
Angela Rayner joined Secretary of State for Wales, Jo Stevens at Pembroke Dock Marine to initiate the Swansea Bay City Deal project which has the potential to unlock more jobs, economic growth and opportunities.
The project is set to complement the Celtic Freeport and place Pembrokeshire at the heart of UK zero carbon and offshore energy innovation.
The Deputy Prime Minister said: “This government is determined to work hand-in-hand with the Welsh Government and local authorities to achieve the best outcomes for people here and right across Wales.
“We want to get all parts of the UK tapping into their local opportunities for growth so that every single person can unlock their potential, no matter where they live.”
Ms Rayner met several small business owners in Pembroke Dock who have received support via the Bridge Innovation Centre (BIC) – a trailblazer in fostering economic growth among start-ups and growing businesses.
She also visited a numeracy workshop at the Pembrokeshire Action for the Homeless (PATH) – a charity in Haverfordwest providing support and development skills for over 2000 people each year.
The purpose of the Deputy Prime Minister’s visit was to make steps towards repairing the relationship between the UK government and Wales.
Henry Tufnell MP, Member of Parliament for Mid and South Pembrokeshire, said: “It was great to welcome Angela Rayner, Eluned Morgan and Jo Stevens to Pembroke Dock to open the new world-class centre for wind, wave and tidal power projects at Pembroke Port.
“We are in a new era of collaboration between Welsh and UK Government, which will directly benefit Pembrokeshire, placing us at the forefront of the Green Energy Revolution.
“Labour’s Green Prosperity Plan will ensure that we cut energy bills, deliver energy security and create good well paid jobs in the county - today is the first step on this exciting journey.”
