A crackdown on criminal activity on west Wales roads saw around £2,000 worth of fines being issued to offenders.
Dyfed-Powys Police Roads Policing officers, along with the DVLA, mounted Op Mini Invigor on Thursday August 22 with the aim of improving road safety and reducing the risk of harm.
Officers identified vehicles travelling along the A48 towards Cross Hands before escorting them into the car park at Leekes to be checked.
Working in partnership with the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) and Carmarthenshire County Council, they targeted clandestine activity and road safety issues – including the ‘Fatal 5’ of drink/drug driving; speeding; not wearing a seatbelt; using a mobile phone and careless driving.
Throughout the day, around 40 vehicles were inspected and amongst the road safety offences detected were overweight vehicles, trailers with no brakes and illegal tyre treads.
A Dyfed-Powys Police spokesperson said: “Immediate action was taken, with some vehicles being stopped from moving until the issues were fixed, and fines were handed out.
"Although the exact amount is yet to be confirmed, Roads Policing and the DVSA issued around £2,000 in fines.”
Officers thanked Brodyr Evans Bros for their assistance in the operation.
