A young scout leader from Pembrokeshire has congratulated adventurer Dwayne Fields on becoming the new UK Chief Scout.
Iestyn Nevatte, 22, was among a select group of scouts and leaders from across the UK who attended the special ceremony.
He was one of the first to commend Mr Fields on his appointment as the 11th Chief Scout, succeeding Bear Grylls.
Mr Fields, the first black Briton to reach the North Pole, was chosen for his values, commitment to helping young people learn life skills, and outstanding leadership.
Mr Nevatte, who has been an active member of the Pembrokeshire scouting community since joining 1st Pembroke Haven as a beaver at the age of six, is now an assistant leader at Viking Explorers in Pembroke Dock.
He inspires 14 to 18-year-olds on their scouting journey.
Mr Nevatte said: "Listening to Dwayne speak and being a part of the experience has been a great honour.
"I truly believe Dwayne will inspire the movement and bring positive change.
"Dwayne’s background – moving over from Jamaica and finding a home in scouting – is truly inspiring.
"This is something that resonates with me personally, as I find scouting to be a second family."
The scouts who attended the investiture participated in various activities with the new Chief Scout, including climbing, soft archery, and tomahawk throwing.
The day ended with a campfire where Mr Fields made his scout promise.
He expressed his excitement for his new role.
Mr Fields, who joined the movement as a cub scout, credits the scouts with giving him friendships, skills, belief in himself, and hope for his future.
With determination and support from his scout leaders, he became the first black Briton to reach the North Pole in 2013.
He has since built a successful career in adventure and television, presenting shows on Channel 5, Disney+, and National Geographic.
He is passionate about encouraging people from all backgrounds to explore nature and support their communities.
Rhian Moore, ScoutsCymru’s chief volunteer, said: "I'm very excited Dwayne is our next Chief Scout.
"He embodies scouting and has a very special scout story to share.
"I've met him a few times and he's an inspiration.
"He'll have a go at anything and helps others to be the best they can be.
"His sense of adventure is infectious, and he makes wonderful things happen, making it easier for those who may not have the confidence to have amazing adventures."
A key part of Mr Fields' mission will be to attract new volunteers, especially in communities new to scouts, so that the movement can welcome more young people.
He will be visiting these areas, encouraging and inspiring teams to grow the movement.
