The son of murdered Kim Butler has paid tribute to a mother who was “a people’s person” and “a shoulder to cry on”.

Ms Butler was found dead from multiple stab wounds in her Saundersfoot flat in the early hours of last Wednesday morning.

Steven Butler, one of 44-year-old Kim’s three children, and the father of her two grandchildren, has opened a tribute group to his mother on the social networking site Facebook.

He has been both supported and touched by the response from Kim’s friends.

“What people say is what she was,” said 22-year-old Steven.

“My mum had such a big heart for everyone,” he continued. “If you wanted a shoulder to cry on or just a natter, as long as part of the deal was a cup of coffee, she was all ears.

“Mum has lived in Saundersfoot for years and years so she had developed a lot of friendships – young and old.

“From giving her friends a rest by tiring the children out, which is always useful, to helping her elderly neighbours with shopping, she was a people’s person.”

Steven said that the support offered to him through his mother’s friends sharing their memories has been priceless.

“What happened to mum was devastating to hear,” he said. “You never expect it to happen around here, or that it will be someone you know, or that it will happen to you.

“The friends of mum and their joyful experiences have made me appreciate who my mum was.

“Even though I’m in Haverfordwest, it has felt as if I’m still in Saundersfoot, and that has been comforting.

“My mum is now gone and I hope she is peaceful up there. Apart from friends helping I have repeated a saying in my head: ‘Celebrate the life and do not mourn the death’.”
