Pembrokeshire will be bursting with flower power for the next four days, as a blooming marvelous display of floral art graces Picton Castle, near Haverfordwest, until Sunday evening.

A floral tale of Picton Castle is the biggest ever floral art exhibit in West Wales. Members of Pembrokeshire's six floral art societies spent the summer raising funds for over 5,000 flowers to be shipped from Rijnsburgin Holland to Rhos.

They have spent the last three days using the blooms and foliage to create truly sumptuous floral displays throughout the castle.

Each display is in keeping with the room it is displayed in: in the old kitchen a fresh white display gives the impression of freshly laundered sheets, the dining room table is laid with a feast of fruit and flowers and arrangements tone in perfectly, complementing the castle's paintings and furniture.

All the proceeds from the four day flower fest will go to Breakthrough Breast Cancer Wales and LATCH (Welsh Children’s Cancer Charity). Both charities are close to festival organiser Cynthia Higgon's heart as she has had personal experience of the illness.

Cynthia is a tour guide at Picton Castle and came back from a flower arranging event in Hereford Cathedral last year full of inspiration for a similar event at the castle.

"What better place could you have?" said Cynthia," It's wonderful surroundings. It's a dream come true really."

The castle's marketing manager, Maureen Prentice agreed: "It is stunning," she said of the event. "I can't believe the amount of flowers we have here. It's absolutely beautiful."

A Floral Tale of Picton Castle is open from today, Thursday October 2nd to Sunday October 5th 10.30am to 5pm. Entry costs £8 per person.
