Hundreds of LNG employees working at two sites around the Milford Haven waterway are continuing their strike today (Wednesday) after downing tools in support of sacked workers at the Lindsey Oil refinery.

Pembrokeshire workers walked out in sympathy, after a week of unofficial industrial action at the Lindsey oil refinery in North Lincolnshire led to the sacking of more than 600 construction staff.

Around 230 construction employees working on the build of Phase 2 at the South Hook terminal near Herbrandston walked off site on Monday.

This followed the walkout of workers at the Dragon LNG site in Waterston on Friday morning.

A spokesman for South Hook LNG confirmed today (Wednesday) that workers had downed tools for a third consecutive day.

"We understand this action is linked to the recent industrial relations activity at the Lindsey Oil refinery.

"We believe the parties involved are taking steps to resolve matters with their contract employees and it would be inappropriate for us to comment further at this time."

The South Hook spokesman said it was 'unlikely' workers would return to work today (Thursday) but confirmed that normal operations at the site had not been affected by the action.

A Dragon LNG spokesman confirmed that some workers had left the site on Friday morning but would not confirm the numbers of strikers.

"Some of our contractors workforce have left site," said the spokesman.

"We understand this is in support of industrial action taking place elsewhere in the country."

"Mid 2009 is still the most up to date expectation for completion of the terminal."
