"Foot and Mouth. Bluetongue. Bovine TB. Falling milk prices. Wet Welsh weather.

"Pembrokeshire County Show has withstood many tribulations during its 50 years at Withybush airfield," writes Preseli Pembrokeshire AM Paul Davies.

"But through thick and thin, farmers, tourists and country lovers have come together to celebrate all that's good about the county.

"I'm looking forward to seeing plenty of old friends and contacts next week and to meeting a few new ones.

I'll be at the show for all three days and am holding a joint advice surgery with my Parliamentary counterpart Stephen Crabb on Thursday morning at our Welsh Conservatives stand at pitch B351.

"One of the big topics of conversation on the showfield is likely to be the news that the TB badger cull is due to get started in North Pembrokeshire this autumn.

"Wales's chief veterinary officer has said that plans for the cull are well advanced and that the programme will possibly last as long as four years.

"It took 22 years to eradicate bovine TB in Australia.

Wales is only just starting out on what is bound to be a very long road. However, even a journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step."
