Christmas just wouldn't be the same without The Great Escape.

But the film classic has a new slant this year courtesy of a Pembrokeshire campaign group.

To highlight what it feels are "complete contradictions" over the badger cull, Pembrokeshire Against the Cull (PAC) will dress as the animals and 'escape' over the River Teifi and Preseli hills, out of the cull area.

"Badgers will escape from the cull area in two directions over Christmas. On Christmas Eve, a group of costumed PAC supporters will be led, Watership Down style, off the Welsh Wildlife Centre to safety over the Teifi. The event will begin at 1pm at the Wildlife Centre car park," said PAC spokesman Celia Thomas.

On December 28th, there is the "Preseli Badger Dash", an event suitable for all ages. Members of the public are encouraged to dress or paint themselves as badgers, and take a short run or stroll to the viewpoint at Foel Eryr.

The event starts at 12pm at the car park at Bwlch Gwynt (the pass over the hills).

"We hope to show residents and tourists the folly of this plan. Please come and show your support for our cause at one of our events this Christmas" added Ms Thomas.
