Prendergast Villa 1 Narberth 2

Ralph Phillips' Narberth moved into second spot in the league following this victory over Division One new boys Prendergast Villa, but the victory didn't come without a struggle.

The home side may be precariously placed above the relegation zone but they are a tenacious side and that really shone through above the gloom and murk of Saturday afternoon.

In fact they were tenacious enough to have taken the lead after just six minutes when Steve Britten latched on to a long Darren O'Leary ball to found the back of the net.

A period of stalemate followed where both sides appeared to cancel each other out but then on 30 minutes Jamie Howitt, who appears to be scoring at will at present, drilled home a poor clearance from a corner and the scores were back level.

The goal seemed to have spurred Narberth on and they scored again just before the break when Raff Barnett finished well from a good low cross by David Gillard.

It proved to be the last goal of the game as in the second half there were plenty of chances at either end but both teams were guilty of squandering these opportunities.

Right at the death Prendergast's Darren Barrington went close with a header, but it wasn't close enough and Narberth took the points.
