Cardigan 26 Waunarlwydd 3

Two tries by dynamic flanker Mark Hughes headed Cardigan in the direction of a home win against Waunarlwydd in a top of the table clash at the King George Vth Ground.

The Tivysiders were good value for a ten-point interval lead with fly half Gavin Morris and full back Aled Thomas in form with the boot they were always in charge up front and made sure of a clear-cut success against the visitors.

The first quarter was very even but solid work up front ensured possession in the close exchanges which allowed Aled Thomas to slot a penalty which was soon followed by the conversion of Hughes' first try.

Eilir Williams and Kevin Hurley made sure that the Teifisiders had their share of lineout ball and with the Cardigan pack going well Thomas was able to slot three further penalties after the break, with Waunarlwydd full back Adrian Moore replying with three points after Thomas first successful kick of the half.

Cardigan defended well through Dylan Rees and Barry John when they needed to and after absorbing the expected fight-back by Waunarlwydd they sealed a fine victory as Andrew 'Togo' Phillips off-loaded to the ever-present Hughes for his second try, which Thomas again converted.
