TENBY'S brave Boxing Day bathers are hoping to repeat the success of last year's event which broke all its fundraising records.

Thanks to the efforts of the largest-ever crowd of 377 swimmers and its enthusiastic spectators, the plunge splashed out to raise more than £15,200 for charity.

This bumper sum takes the total raised by the swim in its 31-year history to around £90,000.

While some individual dippers collect for their own charitable causes, there are many others who raise sponsorship for the charities nominated by the event organisers, the Tenby Sea Swimming Association.

And the TSSA is now hoping to hear from organisations who would like to receive a donation from the forthcoming swim.

Any charity would would like to be considered is invited to contact the TSSA secretary Maggie Thorne at York House, Lower Frog Street, Tenby SA70 7HX by November 20th.

The swim of 2002 has secured generous sponsorship from Pembrokeshire-based company Coastal Cottages.

And as this year is the 600th anniversary of Tenby's charter, it has been decided that the swim's fancy dress theme will be 'Tenby's History' - events, people and buildings relating to the town in years gone by can all be marked by some crazy costume!

Sponsor forms for the swim are now available from the Fourcroft Hotel, Tenby; Noble's Newsagents, High Street, Narberth or - for the first time - from the internet, where a form can be downloaded from the 'Tenby - a town for all seasons' website at www.tenby.tv.
