Monkton Swifts 2 Tenby 1

Monkton got back to winning ways with victory over Tenby in a game which was described by Swifts midfielder Robert Tweed as 'scrappy'.

Both sides have shown good form this season and both sides possess a number of talented youngsters that bodes well for the future of the clubs. However, neither side could really get going in a match where the defences held tight.

Tenby crated a couple of chances but as their stalwart supporter Norman Hanlon said:

"We just can't score at the moment."

Nevertheless, they took the lead in the 28th minute in bizarre fashion when their Keeper Dewi Davies, hoofed the ball upfield, into the the Swifts area and a mix up between Terrance Kingdom and Wayne Reynolds saw the ball being headed into the net as Reynolds came out to collect.

Reynolds then pulled off a number of fine saves, especially from Gavin Scotcher who came on to replace the injured Luke Lawrence and in his first game back since playing rugby with Tenby, he showed enough class to please the visiting management.

Monkton equalised just before the break when James Archer supplied a pinpoint cross which was met by Daniel Hart and he made no mistake in striking home an excellent equaliser.

Monkton began the second period the brighter of the two sides and were only stifled in scoring more goals due to the brilliance of Deryn Brace at the back. The former Wrexham man showed his class and skill on the ball but even he could do nothing to stop the Swifts winner as Lee Jones saw Davies off his line and in the style of David Beckam, volleyed the ball over his head passed his despairing dive.

Tweed added: "I wouldn't go as far as to say that we deserved to win as the game was close and Tenby had their chances, but a goal such as Lee Jones was worthy of winning any game.

lAt the time of going to press, Luke Lawrence was in hospital having an operation on his cheekbone following a class of heads. Telegraph Sport would like to take this opportunity of wishing him a speedy recovery to full fitness
