A £25 million package of additional funding to tackle a backlog of road repairs and maintenance in Wales has been announced by the Welsh Assembly.
The money will be distributed between all 22 Welsh local authorities, and the proposed allocation for Pembrokeshire is £1 million.
Dr Richard Edwards, Labour AM for Preseli Pembrokeshire and chairman of the Environment and Transport Committee, said: The new package will help enable repairs and improvements to be made in Pembrokeshire and across Wales.
Chairman of Pembrokeshire County Councils Highways and Transportation Committee, Councillor Brian Hall, said: After long years of cutbacks in road maintenance funding, this announcement is most welcome. However, it appears to be a one-off allocation and it is important for the National Assembly for Wales to address the issue of funding of road repairs. This would enable local authorities to maintain their road networks to acceptable standards.
