Fishguard Sports 0 Milford Athletic 1 A neatly taken half volley from right back Martin Davidson after just four minutes was enough to send Milford Athletic through to the second division cup final.

The Fishguard defence failed to clear a corner from the left and the ball sat up beautifully for Davidson ten yards out to steer it home through a crowd of players.

The goal paved the way for a first half completely dominated by Milford. Midfielder Stewart McDonald fired over when through one-on-one, Davidson followed suit five minutes later and striker Jamie Lawrence went close twice but was denied first by Fishguard keeper Darren Turner and then by the linesman's flag.

As the half time whistle blew, Fishguard knew they were lucky to be only one goal behind and they must have been fired up for a big second half showing.

But it never materialised, the second 45 was the dampest of damp squibs, almost like a practice match in the pleasant winter sun.

Fishguard hardly threatened and almost the only incident was a booking for Milford's burly centre back Dai Davies for a crude challenge on Paul DeGroot.

They must have known it wasn't going to be their day when full back DeGroot missed a golden opportunity on 75 minutes, firing wide from just six yards out.

And that was that as far chances went. Fishguard threw keeper Turner up front for a couple of corners in the last five minutes but it was too little too late and, despite their first half profligacy, Milford Athletic fully deserved their place in the final.
