Another waterfront project in Pembrokeshire has been unveiled by a development company.

Preseli Construction Ltd of Pembroke Dock, is planning to build 24 two, three and four-bedroom apartments on the site of the former Dudley Marine Boatyard at Blackbridge Pill, Milford Haven.

But, the proposal has raised concern among local residents and the town council about a right of way.

The company's managing director Charlie Kidd, said: "These apartments will have a Welsh look with stonework and Welsh slate. We hope to have a few moorings and a floating pontoon so people can walk out of their door, step on to the pontoon and then on to their boats."

The architect for the project is Alan Colley, of Pembroke, and Preseli Construction Ltd has already submitted a planning application to Pembrokeshire County Council Mr Kidd added: "We hope to start work as soon as we have planning permission.

"The whole of the development should be completed within two years. We have had a lot of interest from local people and hope that the apartments will be used as permanent homes."

Mr Kidd said his development at Milford Haven is totally separate to that planned by Shanks Group plc which already has outline planning consent for a marina and residential development at Castle Pill, Milford Haven.

Shanks Group plc recently applied to the county planning department to extend this permission for another two years.

Town Councillor Anne Hughes said people did not object to the apartments, but to the loss of a right of way.

"People are very concerned about the loss of a right of way this council fought very hard for," she said.

Councillors said the path, at one time the old Waterston road, is the only access route for bigger boats and a lack of pavement would make walking around the road unsafe.

They voted to write to Pembrokeshire County Council stating they could not approve the application until the right of way issue was resolved.
