Thanks to Costains linking up with ACR Environmental to donate skip hire to Narberth Museum, the old bonded warehouse in Narberth will soon be a step nearer to becoming the museum’s new home. It’s the first of the Dyfed High Sheriff’s Go Make A Difference projects to be confirmed. The old James Williams’ Bonded Warehouse is currently full of debris that poses safety risks so the trustees have been anxious to get it cleared in advance of starting work on the restoration. Turning the 100-year old warehouse into a museum and community space is a huge project and fund raising is all-consuming. Hiring skips to clear the building was an unexpected cost so the Dyfed High Sheriff’s Go M.A.D. scheme offered a lifeline. Costain Public Liaison Officer Phil Baker explains: “The Go M.A.D. scheme is a great way for community projects to get practical help with goods and services that will make a difference to their long term future. Costains were very pleased to become part of the High Sheriff’s band of volunteers and it was especially fitting that the first project to come our way was for Narberth Museum. The archaeological finds unearthed while building the Robeston Wathen by-pass are all destined for the museum so we’re keen to give them the best home possible.”

Dan Bussell, director of ACR Environmental, was at first bemused to be asked to Go M.A.D. but quickly agreed to help when the importance of clearing the space was explained.

The picture shows Dan Bussell (ACR Environmental), Liz Hole (Narberth Museum shop manager), Phil Baker (Costain’s Public Liaison Officer) and Brian Murray, a volunteer on the Go M.A.D. team. Brian will be spending the next few weeks looking to match more companies with projects so, if you’re in business in Pembrokeshire, expect a call from him! The Go M.A.D. volunteers have short-listed 15 projects but need help from local businesses and volunteers to make them happen. Brian’s shopping list includes kitchens, guttering, paint and painting equipment.
