A Newport house at the centre of years of controversy has won an appeal to remain.
The Welsh Assembly planning inspectorate has allowed an appeal to retain Bettws Newydd, a large house nearing completion on the Parrog, which was branded an ‘eyesore’ by objectors.
The decision followed a six day hearing held in October, after the Pembrokeshire National Park Authority refused a retrospective application and issued an enforcement notice to remove the building, which had not been built according to planning permission granted in 2006.
Planning inspector Clive Cochrane stated: “In determining both appeals, I am bound to attach considerable weight to the fact that there is an extant planning permission for a new dwelling on the site; a dwelling that would be only slightly different from the building subject to these appeals.”
