A church community in Milford Haven will tomorrow (Sunday) bid a final farewell to its place of worship for more than a century.

The Tabernacle United Reformed Church (URC) will close its doors on more than 100 years of history, as the congregation moves to the Priory Road Methodist Church building to form a new church called Christ Church.

A series of services and celebrations are being held this weekend to mark the historic move.

The two churches have already been working closely together and sharing a minister, currently the Rev Hugh-John Wilson, for a number of years.

This weekend will mark the two congregations finally coming together as one.

Rev Hugh-John Wilson said: “This is an exciting time for the two churches.

“It will be a highly emotional occasion, especially for the members of Tabernacle as they say goodbye to a much loved building, but also a time of joy as we look forward with renewed hope to our future together as Christ Church.”

Today (Saturday) at 7pm a Celebration Service will be held at Tabernacle URC with guest preacher Rev Pete Noble, moderator of the United Reformed Church, National Synod of Wales.

The service will be led by Rev Hugh-John Wilson, who will be joined by Rev David Morgan, a previous minister of Tabernacle.

Local dignitaries, members of the community and congregations from across the town and county will attend.

On Sunday at 10.30am, Christians from across the county will meet for a final service of Communion in the Tabernacle building and at about 11.15am the congregation will walk together to Priory Road Methodist Church.

The service will then be concluded at the newlymerged congregation’s new home.
