For the second weekend running, torrential rain and flash flooding caused problems throughout the county.

Many roads were hit by flooding caused by surface water running from fields and blocked drains, and some motorists found themselves having to drive through water several feet deep.

In the north of the county, the road between Cilwendeg and Llechyrd was closed on Sunday after floodwater and topsoil from a field was washed onto it. The farmer later cleared the area.

County council workmen provided sandbags after a house in Square and Compass was affected by run-off from fields.

Haverfordwest's Bridge Street shops escaped this time but firefigfhters were called to a flood in the ground floor of 24 Richmond Crescent on Sunday morning. The water was pumped out and a salvage sheet put in place to prevent further flooding. A request for sandbags was also made by The Services Club in Quay Street and there were calls for help from Merlins Bridge after a garden was flooded in Fernhill Road and a road in Tudor Gardens.

Fashion for Floors in Charles Street, Milford Haven, was flooded after water built up due to a blocked drain caused by leaves and other debris.

Market Square was flooded, as were the bottom of St Anne's Road and St Lawrence Hill, Hakin; Marble Hall, Priory Road, Steynton Road and Great North Road.

Staff at the Lion Hotel in Main Street, in Pembroke, found themselves ankle deep in water after the drain at the back of the building became blocked with fallen leaves.

Manageress Tracy Thomas said: "The water came rushing in through the back door and went through the dining room and bar to the front door. Five of us were trying to sweep it out, while the fire crew unblocked the drain."

Although the hotel lost Sunday lunch customers, it was open for business in the evening.

Pembrokeshire County Council's area maintenance department also dealt with a number of calls about flooding in the south of the county. They included Commons Road in Pembroke; Front Street, King William Street, and Treowen Street, Pembroke Dock; two instances in High Street, St Florence; Minnerton Cross; Park Avenue, Kilgetty; Bushes Lane, Narberth, and the bottom of St Bride's Hill, Saundersfoot.
