FOR anyone willing to brave the chilly waters for the now traditional New Year’s Day dip, there’s a spellbinding alternative venue to the popular Saundersfoot swim.

The little seaside village of Amroth is once-again hosting its annual New Year’s Day Swim, from 12.30pm.

Following last year’s success, water entry will again be from the main slipway opposite Amroth Castle. All local businesses will be open as usual after the swim to warm everyone up.

This year the chosen theme is Harry Potter, in honour of the 20th anniversary of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.

All proceeds raised will go to support local charity Amelie’s Rainbow.

Amelie's Rainbow was set up by 10-year-old Amelie to raise money for various children's cancer charities following her own illness.

Until very recently Amelie's family lived in Princes Gate, and have since had to move to Haverfordwest.

In March 2017, a normally very fit and healthy Amelie started complaining of headaches, which were accompanied with intermittent vomiting. In early April, Amelie was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumour and was immediately transferred to The Noah's Ark Children's Hospital in Cardiff (the only children's hospital in Wales) for emergency surgery to remove a tumour.

Surgery went well and Amelie has completed a gruelling six-week course of radiotherapy and is undergoing nine months of chemotherapy.

Shortly after diagnosis, Amelie came out with the statement 'challenge accepted' and decided to help other children and their families in the same situation, with the creation of the charitable fund Amelie's Rainbow, where all money raised will go to Noah's Ark Children's Hospital and supporting children's cancer charities.
