IT'S fair to say the town was painted red in Fishguard yesterday as Ysgol Bro Gwaun were at the centre of an intitiative to raise funds and awareness for the Velindre Cancer Centre.

Pupils took part in a series of events throughout the week including a cross country race, football, touch rugby, band selling and a cake stall.

The efforts of the School were boasted by a supportive local community who took part in the 'Wear Red of Velindre and Wales Campaign' on Friday.

A host of local businesses wore red and raised money through collection pots, raffles, prize draws, and other means.

Chris Shousha, WRU Hub Officer for Ysgol Bro Gwaun, said: "A massive thank you to all the those that contributed from the school and local community, it was a privilege to be involved in this fundraiser.

"Details of the final total are still to be confirmed, but collection buckets will still be about over the weekend if anyone want to donate.

"It was a brilliant day for the local community, and to top it off the Six Nations starts today."
