MILFORD Haven farmer Non Thorne is one of two representatives chosen to attend the Oxford Farming Conference next January.

Judges from the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society have awarded the honour to top Herefords breeder Non from Steynton and Rhys Griffith from Caernarfon.

The conference, held annually in early January, has established a reputation for strong debate and exceptional speakers.

It is one of the most important events of its kind bringing together farmers, politicians, scientists and others to discuss the future development of the agricultural industry.

This year, the theme of 'Growing a Healthy Society' is all about strengthening the relationship between the population, the land and the people who produce the nation’s food.

Non and Rhys will be invited to write an article for the 2021 Royal Welsh Journal and will be presented with their bursary on Monday, November 25, at the Royal Welsh Winter Fair.

“Five candidates came forward for interview this year and we were very impressed with the calibre of the candidates.” remarked the judges, Menna Evans and Rhys Richards.

“We were particularly impressed by the high standard set by each candidate and their personal achievements to date. Our final selection was very difficult but we were both in full agreement that the following two candidates’ enthusiasm and true appetite to attend and learn at the conference shone through.”
